Where are you from originally?
I am originally from Port Jefferson, NY and now reside in Northport, NY.
Where do you love to vacation?
Palm Beach, Florida
What's the strangest thing you've ever witnessed at a hotel?
When you have been a General Manager in New York City for 20 years, nothing is strange anymore. I do have a story that made me realize how fragile life can be. There was a hotel guest at one property that suffered a brain hemorrhage in the middle of the night and wandered out of her room and into the guest corridor to lie down. Our security found her unresponsive and immediately called 911. When the guest arrived to the hospital, she was quickly taken into surgery, and we were notified that had it been 15 more minutes, they wouldn't have been able to save her life. It reminded me of the incredible responsibility that we, as hotel employees, have every single day to ensure the best care for our guests.
What is your idea of a perfect dinner?
Great ambiance, high level of service, and quality food in a relaxed atmosphere with good company.
What mobile app can you not live without?
I'm an ‘old-school' guy, and what that means is that my phone is used primarily for texting and calling my family and friends. In terms of apps, my alarm clock wakes me up every morning, and the maps app allows me to get to places without having to ask for directions.
What is the best thing about your job?
The ability to work with a team towards a common goal to create authentic memorable experiences for our guests.
Where do you take friends for a drink?
If I am staying within our hotel, our single malt lounge SINGL, is the ideal place to grab a great class of whisky. If I am anywhere in the island of Manhattan, Strip House Steakhouse Lounge has the perfect atmosphere, drink and food menu.
City Launches RFP to Develop Union Square Tech Hub
A home to some of the biggest names in tech, Union Square is gearing up to launch an all-new tech hub to support a multitude of tech firms. Last month, the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) released an RFP to redevelop 124 East 14th Street, currently the site of a P.C Richard & Son, into a hub for emerging technology companies. The goal is support the development of 21st century workforce skills, create a high density of quality jobs for New Yorkers and promote the formation of next generation companies and industries for New York City. "The current site of the P.C. Richard store will serve as a new tech hub in Union Square, capitalizing on the academic and transit advantages offered by the neighborhood," said EDC President Maria Torres-Springer. Union Square's accessibility to transit, shopping, and restaurants, make the site ideal for technology and creative businesses. "The Union Square Partnership is thrilled that NYCEDC is developing 124 East 14th Street as a new commercial hub for 21st century businesses," said Jennifer Falk, Executive Director of the Union Square Partnership. "This is another terrific example of NYCEDC finding creative solutions for businesses, which are hard pressed to find adequate space."
