NYC Art Show At Hyatt Union SquareIf you've passed by the Hyatt Union Square New York recently, you may have noticed beautiful art in the windows of the hotel's lobby. This special display is part of an exhibit known as "The Nature of Artifice." It features the work of Eliana Petrides, an up-and-coming artist/designer and Parson's School of Design graduate. Running through September 30, 2014, the window art display features an array of floral installations that highlight New York City's unique artfulness along with the spirit of summer. Petrides entered her work in a design competition held by Hyatt Union Square New York last year and was chosen from a large number of extraordinary submissions. The competition was a natural for the hotel as it has always exhibited a strong commitment to the neighborhood's strong art community,
At the heart of Petrides' work is a multitude of mixed media materials. These range from plasticized, holographic-effect fabrics and crystals to a variety of additional jewels. You'll also be treated to a custom-designed vinyl window decal featuring paintings by the artist. During the installation's run, all hotel guests will be the recipients of room key cards with Petrides' singular designs on them. While at the Parsons School of Design, Petrides won the Swarovski Crystal Sponsorship Award for her senior thesis collection. Her hands-on experience includes stints at such respected design houses as Ralph Lauren, John Varvatos, and Colette Malouf. Soon, she hopes to unveil her very own label known as HLIANA.
